It is interesting to note that throughout the 14th chapter of Mark preparations are made in connection to the death of Jesus. At the beginning of the narrative, we read how the religious leaders in Jerusalem prepare to arrest Jesus and put him to death (14:1). Later, when a woman enters into the house where he is eating and anoints him with a costly perfume, Jesus declares:

“She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial” (14:8).

That night as he dined with his disciples, Jesus spoke with his disciples in order to prepare them for the difficult days ahead and instituted a ceremonial supper through which they would remember his sacrifice (14:17-31). After the dinner, while an armed mob prepared to arrest him, Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane with his disciples in order to pray in preparation for the night and day of suffering that awaited him  (14:32-42).

Considering all of these preparations and how even today the whole world prepares to remember the death of Jesus on Good Friday, how are you preparing your heart? Are you ready to give all your life to Jesus who died for you on a cross?
